The young - dramatic Soprano was described as
"The discovery of a Strauss voice" (NOZ, Guenter Denz) in a review of the Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss.
Ms Rothfuss' stage performances include Barber's Vanessa and Strauss' Ariadne (Los Angeles), Donna
Elvira in Don Giovanni (Alaska), the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro (Hamburg) and Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan
Tutte (Wien). She toured the United States with the Columbia Artists as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus as well as singing Agathe in Der Freischütz (Philadelphia). Her newest roles include
Wagner's Elisabeth, Elsa and Senta, Beethoven's Leonore and
Strauss' Chrysothemis, Arabella and Salome.
Ms. Rothfuss is an active recitalist, filling evenings with songs from Berg, Strauss, Brahms, Schönberg, Dvorak, Schumann, Schubert (etc.) and also Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler und Fanny Mendelssohn. Her interpretation of Berlioz' Les Nuits d'Ete with the OOM Orchestra were highly praised and great artists like Dalton Baldwin (Princeton), Julius Drake (Graz) und Graham Johnson (Wien) guided and accompanied her musical development.
She made her Oratorio debut singing Mendelssohn's Lobgesang Symphony with the Savannah Symphony under Phillip Greenberg and continued to impress with Les Nuits d’ete von Berlioz (Osnabrücker Orchester), Serenade to Music (Germantown Orchester), Mozart - und Faure Requiem, Händel’s Messiah etc. and sang the World Premieres of Missa Katharina, Markus Passion (Jacob de Haan) and Bruder Martin (Eugen Eckart).
Helen Katja, the daughter of American opera singers, literally grew up in the theater, singing and playing children's roles like The Cunning Little Vixen by Janacek starting at the age of 4 years old. By the time she was 15 she was already a member of the opera chorus. She studied Voice Performance and Music Education at Westminster Choir College, Princeton. She received her Bachelor of Music Degrees with honors. During her studies she sang with important conductors such as Kurt Masur, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Riccardo Muti, Zdenek Macal etc.
Her Master of Music Degree was completed with honors at the University of Southern California.
Ms Rothfuss is now living in Germany.
